Board Member Highlight - Gerard Daher

We would like to take this opportunity to thank one of our board members, Gerard Daher, who has volunteered his time, business, and wisdom to impact our students not only on the board but also through our Chamber Program. We sat down with Gerard as he reflects on his time investing in ELA's mission.

What drew you to want to volunteer as a board member at ELA?

‍ I believe mentoring young people and teaching young people life skills is the solution to so many problems.

Why is volunteering important to you?

‍ I have had lots of people contribute to my success and believe I have a social responsibility to help others become successful.

One of our biggest opportunities for volunteers at ELA is our Chamber Program. How was that experience as a host and a panelist?

I’ve now been a part of two of these and find them to be a highlight in my life. I received a handwritten thank you note from one of the students—This young lady will do great things in life.  She liked my advice to “never break a deal with yourself”.

What would you say to others about volunteering with ELA? (i.e. how much time it consumes, rewards, etc.)  

‍It’s time-consuming but extremely rewarding with unique and interesting board members and amazing staff. To think we’ve contributed to the lives of over 40,000 students in a positive way makes me smile!
